Yes.

Unless you only want to use Pyrex to compile plain Python
code, which *might* make it *slightly* faster, but it
might also make it slower.

In other words, there's not much point in using Pyrex
unless you're going to use its C facilities, and you
will need some understanding of C to do that successfully.
