I'm using Python 2.4.2, Pyrex 9.3.1 with Lenard Lindstrom's patches from
Pyrex website and numpy 0.9.6.

I think you can try the unpached Pyrex 9.3.1 first and see if it helps.
The numpy version shouldn't have influence, unless it's very old.
