[Pyrex] running Pyrex on xubuntu

Greetings,

I'm currently trying to move my development platform (Python and Pyrex)
from a Windows machine to an old TransMeta tablet running xubuntu.

I've got the following packages installed:

Python 2.5
Pyrex 0.9.6.4
gcc 4.1.2

As things did not seem to be going well, I downloaded the Pyrex test-suite
from the Pyrex website and after tinkering with it for a while to get it
to actually run I was showered by an avalanche of compile errors.

There was a great deal of repetition of the following messages:

CCompilerError: C compiler returned status 1
gcc: unrecognized option '-no-cpp-precomp'
cc1: error: unrecognized command line option "-mno-fused-madd"
cc1: error: unrecognized command line option "-Wno-long-double"

Also, the whole log of the test-suite may be found at this url:

http://sattara.net/test-log

I now turn to you for wisdom, bewildered as I am by the fact that other
Linuxes seem to work just fine with the exact same packages.

Thanks for any advice,

Sat Tara S
